Anshul Kamboj created history in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy clash between Haryana and Kerala at the Chaudhary Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium in Lahli on Friday (November 15) by becoming just the third player in history to take 10 wickets in an innings in the competition's 90-year-old history. Previously, Premangsu Chatterjee achieved the feat while playing for Bengal against Assam in 1957. He was joined on the elite list by Pradeep Sunderam in 1985 during a clash between Rajasthan and Vidarbha.
Who Is Anshul Kamboj? Kamboj is widely regarded among the best pace-bowling prospects in India and was the highest wicket-taker in the 2024 Duleep Trophy with 16 scalps to his name. In fact, he nearly achieved the same milestone in the tournament, where his spell of 8/69 (India C vs. India B) in Anantapur set the record for the fifth-best bowling figures in the tournament's history.
Kamboj made his debut in all three formats for Haryana in 2022 and has taken rapid strides since then. This was the 19th first-class match of his career in which he has 57 wickets at an average of 24.14.
He burst into the limelight last year during Haryana's victorious campaign in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, in which he took 17 scalps in just 10 matches. That also secured a maiden IPL contract for him after Mumbai Indians (MI) purchased him for Rs. 20 lakhs.
He played three matches for the Hardik Pandya-led side and got two wickets. With the franchise having the option to use a Right To Match (RTM) card on an uncapped player at the 2025 mega auction scheduled to take place later this month, it is likely that Kamboj will return to MI. The 23-year-old was also picked in the India-A squad for the 2024 Emerging Asia Cup last month, where he took four wickets in three games.
