While kids might have candy on the brain with Halloween closing in, parents are likely looking to curb that sweet tooth with some added doses of fruits and veggies.

While kids might have candy on the brain with Halloween closing in, parents are likely looking to curb that sweet tooth with some added doses of fruits and veggies. It's a delicate balancing act, but Melanie Marcus, MA, RD, Dole nutrition and health communications manager, provides some recipe ideas that are fun and yummy and sure to satisfy the whole family this year. “We love Halloween at Dole – and it’s not because we see a need to replace trick-or-treating or the neighborhood costume party with a trip to the salad bar,” said Marcus.

“We absolutely see the importance of continuing holiday traditions, even if some of those traditions may not be the most nutritious. Halloween only comes once a year, so it’s OK to indulge every once in a while. These delicious, party-worthy recipes allow you to get your fruit and veggies without sacrificing the flavor or the fun.



” The three recipes below are the Witching Hour Fro-Whip, the Pumpkin Spice-Sweet Potato Dole Whip, and the classic Crazy Eyes. Witching Hour Fro-Whip The colorful Witching Hour Fro-Whip goes great while watching "Hocus Pocus 2." Ingredients: Directions: Purée bananas, pineapple, blackberries, blueberries, and sugar in a blender; with blender running, slowly add coconut milk.

Makes about 41⁄2 cups. Divide into 4 bowls; top with blueberries, chocolate and/or nuts, if desired. Pumpkin Spice-Sweet Potato Dole Whip Ingredients: Directions: The Pumpkin Spice-Sweet Potato Whip from Dole is a tasty treat.

Heat potato and 2 tablespoons water in a medium microwave-safe bowl, covered with plastic wrap with 1 edge slightly open to vent, in microwave oven 3 minutes or until very tender. Drain potato; cool completely. Purée pineapple, syrup, milk, 1⁄2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice and potato in a food processor on high until smooth, scraping down bowl occasionally.

Makes about 2 cups. Divide pineapple mixture into 4 bowls; sprinkle with remaining 1⁄4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice and top with pecans and/or coconut chips, if desired. Crazy Eyes recipe Can you see these Crazy Eyes are made with baguettes, peanut butter, jelly, bananas and blueberries? Ingredients: Directions: Heat strawberry preserves in small saucepan.

Strain into a small bowl and cool. Spoon preserves into a small plastic storage bag, snipping off one corner. Set aside.

Spread a teaspoon of almond butter on each bread slice. Place a banana slice on top for “eye ball”. Use a dot of preserves to attach blueberry “pupil”.
