Brownies are a delightful indulgence, but they can easily go awry without careful adherence to the recipe . For those with patience, a viral recipe that takes four days to complete has been making waves - and it's reportedly worth the wait. The recipe was originally concocted by TV personality Alvin Zhou in 2020.

TikTok sensation Elise Brulotte, known as @eliseseats, decided to put the recipe to the test. While the preparation is quick, the challenge lies in allowing the brownies to set in the fridge for four days. In her initial TikTok video, she outlined the simple recipe which calls for a generous amount of chocolate.

In a subsequent video, Elise retrieved the brownies from the fridge and baked them for 30 minutes. Post-baking, the brownies must be transferred to the freezer, reports the Daily Record . However, Elise cautioned that this step might not render the brownies "food safe", as the heat could potentially thaw other food items in the freezer.

It's advisable to let the brownies cool before moving them to the freezer. The brownies also require an additional day in the fridge before they're ready to be enjoyed. But Elise couldn't resist digging in early.

Sharing her verdict, Elise enthused: "I wanted to say it was overhyped, it's not. Look at that, this is the best brownie I've ever had, you guys need to make these." Curious followers questioned why the brownies needed such a lengthy stint in the fridge.

The reason? The recipe is primarily composed of chocolate, which requires ample time to properly set. If you're up for a culinary challenge that tests your patience and self-control, here's what you'll need to make the 100 Hour Brownies. 100 Hour Brownies 225g unsalted butter 1 tbsp espresso powder 30g coffee 4 eggs 1 tbsp vanilla extract or paste 450g caster sugar 45g Dutch-processed cocoa powder 1 tbsp espresso powder 1 tbsp salt 225g 75% dark chocolate, melted 215g plain flour 100g milk chocolate, chopped 100g 75% dark chocolate, chopped 170g 75% dark chocolate, chopped for topping Begin by chopping the dark and milk chocolate.

Next, prepare the brown butter: melt the butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat and stir in the espresso powder. Add a couple of ice cubes to cool down the butter. In a stand mixer, whip together the sugar, eggs and vanilla until foamy.

Next, fold in the cocoa powder using a spatula. Incorporate the brown butter and melted chocolate into the mixture. Add the flour and salt.

Follow this with the chopped dark and milk chocolate, folding once more. If desired, you can also add white chocolate chunks. Pour the mixture into a 9x13 inch baking pan.

Cover with cling film and refrigerate for three days. On the fourth day, remove the brownies from the fridge. Chop some additional dark chocolate and sprinkle it over the brownies.

Bake for 30 minutes at 170C. Once cooked, allow the brownies to cool before placing them in the freezer for several hours. You can leave them in the fridge for an entire day, but if you're too eager to wait, feel free to enjoy them straight from the freezer.

Slice into portions and tuck in..
