David Coote has been suspended pending further investigation after allegedly calling Liverpool "s***" and Jurgen Klopp a "German c***" in a video leaked online Premier League referee David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect by the PGMOL. A video, which remains unverified, appearing to show Coote make comments about Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp circulated on social media on Monday. Coote was seen having a conversation with another man on a sofa about two separate Liverpool fixtures, believed to be several years ago.

He is asked: "What did you think of the Liverpool game earlier?" Coote responds: "Liverpool were s***." He is then asked: "What do you think of Jurgen Klopp?" To which Coote replied: "C***. Absolute c***.

"Aside from having a right pop at me when I refereed them against Burnley in lockdown, he accused me of lying then had a right f****** pop at me." A PGMOL statement read: "David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete.

" According to The Mirror, Coote is understood to have accepted the viral video in which he appears is genuine. However, it is believed he does not recall the content of the discussion. Speculation has since been rife over what football team does Coote support.

It has been revealed that Coote is in fact a fan of League Two side Notts County, having been born and raised in Nottinghamshire. Notts have enjoyed a fine start to the season and sit third in the table having won seven and drawn six of their 15 league matches. Stuart Maynard's side, who were promoted back to the Football League in 2023 after a four-year hiatus, were held to a 1-1 draw at Doncaster on Saturday.

Coote, 42, started refereeing as a 16-year-old, working his way from the Notts Alliance League to the National League and EFL. His father, also called David Coote, played professional cricket for Nottinghamshire. Having been promoted to the list of EFL referees in 2010, Coote took charge of the 2014 League One play-off final at Wembley as Rotherham beat Leyton Orient on penalties.

Coote was promoted to officiate in the Premier League in April 2018, taking charge of West Brom's win over Newcastle..
