Fleabag has been off our screens for five years - and it's fair to say we all miss the BBC series. Based on Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s one-woman play of the same name, Fleabag starred the actress as a free-spirited but angry and confused young woman living in London. There was plenty of drama with her love life, family relationships or dealing with some eccentric characters.
Fleabag ran for two series and was a critical and viewers hit. Waller-Bridge won a BAFTA for Best Female Comedy Performance for the first series while the second series received 11 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and won six, with Waller-Bridge earning Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress, and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. Despite pleas for a third series, Waller-Bridge told The Hollywood Reporter that she feels Fleabag is done, but she might bring the character back when she's older.
She added she decided not to do a second season and was proud of her artistic integrity. Andrew Scott as The Priest The hot priest was a huge hit with Fleabag and also viewers when he first appeared in series two.
The charming priest got together with Fleabag, but his faith and love of God stopped them from becoming a couple. Since Fleabag, the Irish actor Andrew Scott has played Colonel John Parray in the BBC series His Dark Materials, Christopher in Black Mirror , Lord Merlin in The Pursuit of Love and Tom Ripley in drama Ripley. The star has also appeared in Sam Mendes flick 1917, All of Us Strangers and will star in upcoming film Blue Moon.
Sian Clifford as Claire Claire had a strained relationship with Fleabag, but the pair grew to love and respect each other over the series. Sian Clifford won the Female Performance In A Comedy Programme at the BAFTAs in 2020. Sian Clifford has gone on to appear in various TV and films including comedy Two Weeks to Live, Diana Ingram in ITV drama Quiz, Inside No.
9, See How They Run and His Dark Materials. In 2024, starred in Doctor Who , Everyone Else Burns, Disney+ film Young Woman and the Sea and even the Christmas advert for Waitrose . Olivia Colman as Fleabag and Claire's Godmother Known as Godmother, she became Claire and Fleabag's stepmother when she married their father.
The artist was snide and awful towards Fleabag and one of the villains of the series. Oliva Colman is a beloved actress thanks to her roles in Peep Show, Green Wing, Broadchurch and other successful TV shows. While she played Godmother in the BBC series, Colman won a Best Actress Oscar for playing Queen Anne in The Favourite.
Beyond Fleabag, she has go onto appear in The Queen as Queen Elizabeth II, Paul King's Wonka film, Heartstopper, Marvel series Secret Invasion, Miss Havisham in drama series Great Expectations, Wicked Little Letters and most recently, Paddington In Peru. Bill Paterson as Frank Frank is Claire and Fleabag's father who married his daughter's Godmother. He appears throughout the series.
Bill Paterson is a veteran TV actor thanks to roles in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Doctor Who, Outlander and The Witches. Since Fleabag ended, Paterson has appeared in Brassic, Ted Lasso, The Sandman, House of The Dragon and Halo. Jenny Rainsford as Boo Boo was Fleabag's best friend and co-owner of the café the pair ran.
Boo accidentally killed herself after learning that her boyfriend had cheated on her. Jenny Rainsford has since appeared in Call The Midwife, Showtrial and Persuasion. Kristin Scott Thomas as Belinda Belinda is a successful businesswoman who meets Fleabag (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) at an awards ceremony presented by Fleabag’s sister, Claire.
The pair have a profound conversation at a bar about female pain. Kristin Scott Thomas was a huge fan of Fleabag and she jumped at the chance to join the BBC show. Since the show's end in 2019, Thomas has become part of the cast of Apple TV+'s spy series Slow Horses as Diana Tavener and directed North Star.
Hugh Dennis as Bank Manager The recurring character appears throughout the series as he tackles a sexual harassment scandal. Hugh Dennis is an English comedian who is widely known for appearances on Mock The Week, QI and has guest hosted Have I Got News for You. He has also acted in Outnumbered, My Hero and Not Going Out and made a surprise cameo n the James Bond film No Time To Die.
Hugh Dennis is currently in a relationship with his Outnumbered co-star Claire Skinner. Brett Gelman as Martin Martin is the alcoholic, abusive husband of Claire and the father of Jake, a son from a previous marriage before Claire. He is also offensive towards others and described himself as a "good guy" with a "bad personality".
Many will recognise him as conspiracy theorist and former journalist Murray from Stranger Things, but he has since appeared in Lady in the Lake, Inside Job and Family Guy..
