When Ayan revealed why he hid Alia-Ranbir's bond

On the second anniversary of ' Brahmāstra : Part One – Shiva', released on September 9, 2024, we look back at an interesting insight from director Ayan Mukerji . He admitted that he preferred to keep Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor 's public appearances to a minimum, worried that their visibility together might affect the film’s reception. In 2021, at a poster launch event of 'Brahmāstra', Ayan revealed his decision to keep Alia and Ranbir's relationship private.

He expressed satisfaction with casting them, praising their acting prowess. The director noted that their bond grew from friendship to romance during the film’s production. Mukerji wanted to keep Alia and Kapoor's pairing fresh for audiences, given that 'Brahmāstra' was their first film together.



He explained his decision, saying, “So then I didn’t want the whole world to see them for these four years. I didn’t want anybody to see them until my film had not come out.” The director revealed that he actively discouraged Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor from making public appearances, saying, “So, lots of things haven’t happened in their lives because every time they would go out together, I would be sitting at the back saying, 'You all are ruining my film.
