Wheeler Dealers presenter Mike Brewer has previously revealed how drivers can secure a "much better deal” on almost all second-hand used cars. The host of the popular classic car restoration show admitted that prospective buyers could secure better rates by following a simple tip. Mike admitted that being open to trading in an older vehicle as part of the sale could help sweeten the deal.

The tip could help cash-strapped individuals secure their dream second-hand model this Autumn. Previously speaking to Car Dealer Magazine , Mike said: "Part-exchange. If you've got a car that's a sellable car, choose the right dealer to go and do a deal with.

“If you've got a decent part-exchange, they are likely to do a much, much better deal with you.” Mike added: “A dealer will be happy to do a much better deal with you on your part-exchange. Therefore, giving you a much better deal on the car you’re buying in the hope he can put your car in stock and sell it again.

” WeBuyAnyCar also admitted that trading in an old car through a part-exchange scheme “can make it easier to cover the cost of the newer model”. The experts also stressed that part-exchanging a car will also ensure motorists can get rid of an older car through a quick sale. It means their old motor is gone instantly and avoids owners having to advertise online to drum up interest.

Mike commented: “So make sure if you've got a good part-exchange, if you’ve got a decent car, clean it, make sure it's really presentable. “Choose the right dealer to take it to and to change up your car, that’s very important." However, WeBuyAnyCar also admitted that part-exchanging a model could come with some downsides.

They stressed some models could be “rejected” if they are not in a good enough condition to be resold. Second-hand models must be “maintained to a high standard” with even high mileage or a missing service history likely to have an impact. Meanwhile, they admit used car owners may receive less money for their models in what could be a major blow.

WeBuyAnyCar commented: “A car dealership will be more focused on making a profit than most private buyers. Therefore, the trade-in value they offer will often be lower than what you could get on the private market.”.
