The leading cause of death in New York killed more than 43,000 people in 2022.

New York had a heart disease death rate of 159.2 per 100,000 people in 2022, the most recent year for which CDC numbers are available. That tied for the 28th-highest rate in the nation and translated into over 43,000 deaths from heart disease in the state in 2022.
