The federal election is on Monday, and here’s what Saskatonians should know as they head to the polling stations to cast their ballots. BEFORE YOU GO The city is split into three ridings, with Saskatoon West in the west, Saskatoon University in the northeast and Saskatoon-South in the southeast. If you’re not sure which one you are voting in, check on the Elections Canada website by typing in your postal code.
It will also direct to your assigned polling station. Most voters likely received their voter information card in the mail this month. It details the assigned polling station based on their address.
When going to your polling station, you can bring your voter information card and an accepted form of ID, such as a driver’s licence or any other card issued by a Canadian government (federal, provincial or local) with your photo, name and current address. Otherwise, you can show two pieces of ID or a combination of an ID and a bank statement or utility bill. More options of what is acceptable proof of identity and address can be found on the Elections Canada website .
Polling stations in Saskatoon will be open for 12 hours, with most open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.
m. THE CANDIDATES There are five parties running across the three electoral districts in Saskatoon. The Conservative Party of Canada (CPC), led by Pierre Poilievre, held all three Saskatoon ridings before the election was called.
The three incumbents will look to hold on to their seats for another term in this election. The Liberal Party of Canada, led by Prime Minister Mark Carney, held government before the election was called. The New Democratic Party (NDP) of Canada continues to be led by Jagmeet Singh.
The Green Party of Canada is led jointly by Jonathan Pedneault and long-time leader Elizabeth May. The People’s Party of Canada (PPC) was formed in 2018 by former Conservative MP Maxime Bernier, and he continues to lead the party.
