COLUMBIA — Guy's Hotdogs , a food truck dedicated to slinging the Windy City's signature hot dogs, is hoping to find a home in the greater Columbia area. The truck's founder, Anthony Guy, has wanted to open his own food truck since he was a college student. After moving from Chicago and living in Columbia for two years, he believes he has found the right niche.
"I was just looking for a good hot dog," he said. "I finally just decided to do it." Since July, Guy has worked on bringing this concept to life — from securing his operational permits to sourcing authentic Vienna beef sausage.
Guy said he is about one week away from opening for business in the Lexington and Columbia areas. In the meantime, his team has been keeping its growing social media following informed as they've cleared the necessary checkpoints for operation. In a Nov.
8 Facebook post , Guy's Hotdogs shared a picture of their A-graded inspection by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture . "I am hoping to open up in the next week or two and I am still looking for places to set up at in the Lexington and Columbia area," the post reads. "Please reach out if you know of any spots hosting food trucks!" Other recent posts show off the truck's silver wrap and colorful logo of a hot dog bursting with toppings.
The Chicago hot dog is nothing short of iconic. Composed of a poppyseed bun, Vienna beef sausage, tomatoes, onions, relish, sport peppers, celery salt and a pickle spear, the Windy City classic is photo-friendly and unmistakable. Guy's concise menu puts these dogs at center stage, only offering two other variants aside from the original — one plain and one with chili.
Aside from the hot dogs themselves, Guy's Hotdogs will offer chips and bottled soft drinks. Guy encouraged those who might have location leads or questions about the Chicago dog to contact him directly ..
