Justin Rose sets the early pace at Augusta ahead of Scottie Scheffler as Rory McIlroy struggles

The Masters has reached the halfway stage and a thrilling weekend is in store. Justin Rose made a brilliant start to proceedings at Augusta National, matching his best-ever round at the iconic course on Thursday with a superb seven-under 65, but a three-shot lead has been cut to one after the second round. Bryson DeChambeau is his closest challenger, while Rory McIlroy is within two of the lead as a sparkling 66 on Friday got him firmly back into contention after his stumbling finish to the opening round.

Defending champion Scottie Scheffler and Tyrrell Hatton are among those on five-under and three off Rose’s lead, while Viktor Hovland enters the weekend inside the top ten despite continuing to be open about struggling with his game.
