The Kansas City Chiefs will look to continue their strong start to the 2024 season on Monday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Chiefs made a move to bolster their formidable defense earlier in the week, acquiring second-round pass rusher Josh Uche from the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick. Uche has struggled to get to the quarterback in recent years, totaling five sacks since the start of 2023 after finishing the 2022 season with 11.
However, joining the Chiefs' defense could be exactly what he needs to maximize his potential. Coach Andy Reid discussed the role they expect Uche to play as he becomes acclimated with the team. "We've had the benefit of having played against him," Reid said.
"So we know he's a very aggressive, good pass rusher [and] good all-around player. We'll work him in with the defensive line rotation-wise. As long as he can handle everything – and I wouldn't expect that he wouldn't – he'll start today working in there and getting used to what we do.
" Reid continued, discussing why they decided to add Uche to an already stacked defensive line. "We know how important that position is," Reid said. "Adding him into the mix there, I think, is something that helps us as a football team.
I'd tell you that's why we did that."
