A brief but important moment hints that Vergil may not be as lost as Dante once believed. Here’s what we know so far about Vergil’s mysterious return, his connection to unfolding events, and what it could mean going forward.

Does Dante find his brother Vergil in Devil May Cry?In the final episode of Devil May Cry (Netflix, 2025), Dante discovers from White Rabbit that his twin brother Vergil, presumed dead since childhood, is in fact alive. “Your other half is very much alive,” White Rabbit says before impaling Dante to open the gates of Hell using the blood of both brothers.Dante responds, “I have to live for him,” and sets his sights on finding Vergil.

However, before he can act, Lady injects him with a serum, stating, “With what your blood can do, it’s too dangerous to have you out in the world.” Dante is then placed into cryostasis by DARKCOM, halting his search. In Hell, Vergil appears in a Uroboros-run detention facility.

He frees demon inmates, stating, “Our King Mundus grants you your freedom. Show him gratitude.” He transforms from demon to human form, wielding a katana and resembling his classic blue-coat look from the games.

How was Vergil alive in Devil May Cry?The series does not explicitly explain how Vergil survived, but his reappearance indicates a longstanding alliance with King Mundus. At the detention facility, Vergil says, “It was Mundus who freed me from my own bondage,” suggesting captivity or control prior to his release. He is introduced as a powerful demon referred to as “The Knight” and later reveals his human form.

His survival and transformation into a key figure alongside Mundus aligns with his “Black Knight” arc from the games, where he is tortured and corrupted by Mundus in Devil May Cry 3.Vergil’s final line, “I am that storm,” confirms his role as a major antagonist aligned with Mundus. The show ends with him preparing for future conflict, indicating further confrontation with Dante in potential future seasons.
