Jean Marsh passes away at 90, claims reportJean Marsh, the award-winning actress and co-creator of the British drama Upstairs, Downstairs, has reportedly died at the age of 90.According to filmmaker and close friend Sir Michael Lindsay-Hogg, she passed away peacefully at her London home due to complications from dementia. (via Independent)Describing her as an “empathetic person,” Hogg said, “Jean died peacefully in bed looked after by one of her very loving carers.



You could say we were very close for 60 years. She was as wise and funny as anyone I ever met, as well as being very pretty and kind, and talented as both an actress and writer.”Marsh gained widespread recognition in the 1970s after co-creating Upstairs, Downstairs with Eileen Atkins.

Set in Edwardian England, the series follows the lives of a wealthy family and their household staff. Marsh played Rose Buck, the loyal parlourmaid, a role she reprised in the show’s 2010 revival. Her portrayal earned her an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in 1975.

In addition to her work on Upstairs, Downstairs, Marsh co-created The House of Eliott and had a successful film and television career. Her film credits include Cleopatra (1963), Frenzy (1972), The Eagle Has Landed (1976), The Changeling (1980), and Willow (1988). She also appeared in Doctor Who, playing different characters in the show.
