The second night of a back-to-back did not go all too well for the San Antonio Spurs. They lost a disappointing 110-93 game to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday. Despite a strong start in the first quarter for the Spurs, the exhaustion of playing two nights in a row started to show for San Antonio.
They lost the second quarter 32-23 before getting absolutely thrashed 38-18 in the third. It allowed the Mavericks to coast to the victory by the fourth. © Scott Wachter-Imagn Images Acting Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson took to the podium for the post-game press conference after the blowout.
He started off positive when answering a question about what there was to build off from this game, before offering insight into the major problem that has affected the Spurs in the early parts of the season. "I thought we did a really good job," Johnson told reporters. "It's that third quarter scoring [that was a problem].
We held them to two quarters under 25 points. And that's been a little bit of our deal, right? We've had some inconsistent good moments. The problem is the inconsistency of it.
So I think just continuing to try to put together consistent 48 minutes, get healthy, and kind of try to build on this stuff." San Antonio will get a couple of nights off before being back on the court for Tuesday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder. That contest will be their second game of NBA Cup play. Related: Spurs' Players Reflect On Chris Paul's Major Milestone Against The Lakers.
