What £30 can get at Trafford Centre's new store that’s a cross between Aldi and Ikea

The new variety store sells snacks, home accessories, stationery and more with prices cheaper than the likes of George at Asda and Next Home

The Trafford Centre has welcomed some stellar new shops over the past 12 months, with Sephora, Kiko Milano and Space NK all calling the Manchester shopping mall home. Now, another retailer has joined the ranks - and it's a corker. Flying Tiger Copenhagen opened its doors to the public on Friday, February 14 to much excitement.

If you didn't know, Flying Tiger is a Danish variety store that sells everything and anything - it offers the sort of thing that you'd find in the bottom level of Ikea, or Aldi's middle aisle. I'm talking Cowboy-themed mugs , fluffy note books, plush stuffed toys, board games and more. I went to cover the opening, and alongside reporting duties, took £30 to see what I could get for that - and I was floored.

I've been in a few Flying Tiger shops before but only ever picked up one or two items so I was blown away with how far my money managed to stretch. With prices starting from 50p, some items are are a lot cheaper than, say, at the likes of George at Asda and Next Home. In total, I got eight items, which, if you do the quick maths, means each item works out to be just £3.

75. Keep on reading to find out what I bought at Flying Tiger's brand new store in the Trafford Centre. Candy floss - £1.

50 The strawberry-flavoured candy Floss costs £1.50 (Image: Shawna Healey/Manchester Evening News) While the brand is known for its homeware and accessories, as a sweet tooth, I made a beeline straight to the snack section - and it was stocked. There was so many goodies to choose from, but I restricted myself to three.

I picked up candy floss for just £1.50, as well as some vegan hard candy (£2.50) in a pretty glass jar.

My favourite, however, was the £2.50 chocolate bites. It tasted similar to a Rocky bar but lighter, which made polishing off the bag feel less indulgent.

Cat shaped pencil holder - £4 The cat shaped pencil holder costs £4 (Image: Shawna Healey/Manchester Evening News) As a proud cat mum, I always gravitate towards anything that's cat-themed and my eye was immediately brought to a £4 cat pen holder. While I already have pen holders on my desk, this one makes a fantastic upgrade to the Poundland ones I've been using for years. Cuddly friend cat - £8 The cat plush cost £8 (Image: Shawna Healey/Manchester Evening News) Staying on the cat theme, I picked up a plush stuffy for just £8, which was the most expensive purchase of the afternoon.

This is a steal, though, considering that a Squishmallow cat costs almost £30 and the cat teddy from Jellycat costs £40. Pink strawberry mug - £6 The pink strawberry mug costs £6 (Image: Shawna Healey/Manchester Evening News) Moving onto homeware, I was dazzled by the range of mugs, cups and bottles. I was seriously considering picking up the brand's alternative to the popular Stanley Quencher, but at £15 I put it back and opted for the gorgeous pink strawberry mug , £6, instead.

As someone who is left handed, I struggle to find novelty mugs that I can actually use. A lot of the time, the design is only one-sided and made for those holding it in their right hand, but this mug is suitable for holding in either the left or right hand. I also love the large 400ml capacity.

Cosy rabbit lamp - £4.50 The cosy rabbit lamp costs £4.50 (Image: Shawna Healey/Manchester Evening News) Anther little desk nick-nack that I bought for my desk is the Cosy rabbit lamp.

I love rabbit motifs so I'll have it displayed all year round, but it's also perfect for using as a seasonal Easter décor. With a couple of small batteries, the cute little lamp emits gentle colour-changing light. Amazon sells a similar version for £14 - and it comes with free Amazon Prime delivery.

Stackable highlighters - £1 The stackable highlighters cost just £! (Image: Shawna Healey/Manchester Evening News) With just £1 left to spend, I opted for these super cute stackable highlighters. There was actually quite a lot available for £1 - you could actually get two pairs of socks - but I loved how adorable these were. Again, the chick design is just perfect for any Easter arts and crafts activities you have planned.
