Veteran actor Manoj Kumar passed away at the age of 87 on April 4, leaving the Indian entertainment industry in shock and sorrow. Known for his patriotic films, including Shaheed (1965) and Upkar (1967), the legendary actor breathed his last at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
His contributions to the film industry have been immense, and his demise is being mourned by several prominent figures. Speaking with Pinkvilla, Bijlani called him a “true legend" who inspired a generation through powerful storytelling.
“It’s truly heartbreaking to hear about the passing of Manoj Kumar, sir. He was a true legend- an artist who didn’t just entertain but inspired an entire generation through his powerful storytelling. His film Upkar was not just a normal movie; they were a lesson of patriotism, values, and humanity," he said.
He shared fond memories of watching Kumar’s movies as a child with his parents, “Those were moments filled with admiration and awe. His presence on screen had a certain warmth and honesty that stayed with you long after the movie ended," he said. The Naagin actor praised the actor’s ability to effortlessly convey emotion, strength and sincerity in his performances.
He concluded by saying, “We’ve lost a gem, but his contribution to Indian cinema will live on forever. Rest in peace, sir. You will always be remembered with immense respect and love.
" Rajiv Adatia also paid tribute to Kumar, saying he was “very saddened" by his passing. He described Manoj Kumar as a “legendary actor" and “great performer" who added value to the industry. “We greatly missed.
Such a sad day for India to lose a legendary person. He has given so much over the years to our fraternity. I’m praying, may his soul rest in peace and strength and love to the family," the reality show personality added.
The entertainment industry has come together to mourn the loss of this legendary figure. Akshay Kumar also paid tribute to Manoj Kumar, recalling the lessons he learned from the veteran actor. “I grew up learning from him that there’s no emotion like love and pride for our country.
And if we actors won’t take the lead in showing this emotion, who will? Such a fine person and one of the biggest assets of our fraternity. RIP Manoj Sir. Om Shanti (sic)," he wrote on X.
