Wetherspoon names 10 pubs that could close as venues go on sale

The pub chain has already axed 12 pubs this year

Regulars at Wetherspoons may want to check if their local is on the list of sites currently up for sale. Pub chain J D Wetherspoon currently has a 10 venues on the market across the UK, including landmark buildings in Cardiff , Swindon and Felixstowe. However, this could change as some previously listed establishments have been spared and will continue to run as Spoons pubs.

The chain's Thomas Drummond site in Fleetwood went on the market for sale in February, but it is no longer for sale and will now keep its doors open in a win for local drinkers. The branch's manager Claire Buxton said the news would be a "delight" for both punters and staff. She added: "We look forward to serving the Fleetwood community for many more years to come.

The popular chain has closed 12 pubs this year, with the London & Rye Wetherspoon in Catford the latest to shut up for good. Drinkers have voiced fears that the recent sales may indicate the chain is struggling.

Yet owner Tim Martin has said that the closures have mainly affected "smaller and older" venues or those in close proximity to another site.
