Bangladeshi media, reporting from Kanpur, expressed surprise over the decision, especially since there had been no rain since morning, and less than half an hour after the announcement, the sun appeared over Kanpur. Bangladesh came into this match looking to prove their mettle against India in Test cricket, having previously defeated Pakistan in Pakistan in a historic two-match series — their first-ever Test series win over Pakistan. Prior to the Kanpur Test, Bangladesh faced India in Chennai, where they lost by 280 runs after a poor batting display, collapsing for 149 runs in the first innings and never recovering.
