The Western Naval Command (WNC) of the Nigerian Navy has successfully concluded the 2025 edition of its Small Arms Firing Exercise and Range Classification (SAFEX), reinforcing its commitment to operational excellence and national security. The two-day exercise, which ran from April 15 to 16, was held at the 192 Battalion Nigerian Army Shooting Range in Owode, Ogun state. It drew robust participation from officers, ratings, and support teams across units within the Lagos area, culminating in a spirited closing ceremony within the command’s area of responsibility.
In his closing remarks, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Michael Oamen, praised the professionalism, discipline, and camaraderie exhibited throughout the exercise. He stated that SAFEX 2025 went beyond just testing marksmanship, serving as a reaffirmation of the collective strength and operational preparedness that define the command. “Today has been a most fulfilling day as we stand here, the dust settling on the range and the echoes of rifle fire fading,” Rear Admiral Oamen stated.
“SAFEX 2025 was not just about hitting targets, but about strengthening the grit and brotherhood that make us a formidable fighting force. To every officer, rating, support team, and even members of the press who treated safety as sacred and teamwork as non-negotiable – I say Bravo Zulu.”.
