BLOUNTVILLE — Avery Horne scored 24 points and Trey Frazier scored all 12 of his in the second half to propel West Ridge past Daniel Boone, 68-52, in a Big East Conference game Friday night at West Ridge. West Ridge improved to 2-2 in the league and 14-9 overall. Boone fell to 0-4 and 6-15.

Horne drove for a basket that gave the Wolves a 33-22 lead with four seconds left in the first half and they maintained a double-digit lead for the entire second half. Horne also opened the second half with a 3-pointer. It was part of a 19-8 West Ridge run that gave it a 50-30 lead on a Horne trey with 2:59 left in the third period.

The decisive stretch included three 3-pointers from Frazier. “Trey had a really good second half,” West Ridge coach John Dyer said. “He’d sprained his ankle today in PE (physical education) or something.

So I was proud of him for toughing through that. “And, of course, I’m glad Avery’s on our team. He’s a real basketball player.

He played great. He made big plays tonight when we had to have ‘em. He did a good job playing defense.

He did a lot of good things.” Dyer was also pleased with the work of players such as Carson Leming, Jordan “J.J.

” Smith and Dylan Bannan. “I thought J.J.

Smith came in and gave us a big spark there in the second quarter,” Dyer said. “I thought Carson Leming played great defense. He guarded No.

24 (Gavin Pearce), and he had one (3-pointer), and that was in transition where Carson was the first guy back and had to be under the hoop. It was the only three he made. I thought Carson’s defense was just awesome.

And I thought he rebounded the ball well. I thought Dylan came in and had a good first quarter.” Boone got 16 points from Jacob Arnold.

Frontcourt players A.J. Burke and Garrison Jones scored 15 and 10, respectively.

“I thought we got away from what was successful early, you know, getting the ball in the paint,” Boone coach Chris Brown said. “And then we just totally went away from it and started jacking 3s. And then they make a couple of 3s and we speed up and go out of control.

You can’t play the game that way. You’ve gotta be smart. We’re not a smart basketball team, and it’s killing us.

“Hats off to them. They make plays and they’re tough to guard.” GIRLS West Ridge 58, Daniel Boone 42 Carter Jones (12) and Campbell Jones (11) combined for 23 points, and West Ridge led by double digits the entire second half to complete a sweep of the Trailblazers.

The Wolves improved to 3-1 in the conference and 15-8 overall. Boone fell to 1-3 and 13-12. The Jones girls, West Ridge coach Kristi Walling says, are a luxury.

“Those are two great players,” Walling said. “Campbell, the last time we played Boone, she did a fantastic job. She stepped up tonight, too.

She’s playing really well in her senior year for us. I’m so proud of her. Carter just continues to get better every game.

” Jones also helped make life tough for Boston College commitment Andrea Flores, who led the ‘Blazers with 15 points. “She’s a great player,” Walling said. “She’s gonna get her points.

What we kind of emphasize is we’re gonna make her work. You can’t give her open stuff. .

.. “It was just a team effort.

When we were switching, everybody was on her at some point.” Boone coach John Good saw two teams headed in different directions. "They play with a team mentality, and we play with an individual mentality," Good said.

"At the end of the day, that's on me.".
