On December 7, Antonio was airlifted to hospital with a broken leg after being cut from the wreckage of his £260,000 grey Ferrari by fire crews in Essex. After colliding with a tree on his way home from training in Epping Forest, the striker was trapped for more than 45 minutes and feared for his life.
But the 34-year-old is now on the road to recovery and is currently in Dubai completing a training programme ahead of a potential return. According to The Mirror , the Jamaica international is making remarkable progress and is back up running. Hammers boss Graham Potter revealed ahead of his side's trip to Arsenal , that he is in a 'good phase'.
'He's going well, he's been out in Dubai so I think it's been good for him to get that work in,' he said. 'I think that's a really good phase of the rehabilitation for him. As far as I know from all the reports from the medical guys, it's moving in the right direction.
It's a case of not rushing that one but certainly it's positive. Potter refused to provide a timeframe on his recovery but he did reveal that he does not expect the 34-year-old to resume full training with his team-mates until after the international break. 'As I said, with the severity of the injury and the incident, the most important thing is that he takes the space and time that he needs with the medical people. Then Mick being Mick, as soon as he feels ready, he's going to be ready.
' Antonio will no doubt be cheering on his colleagues as they go in search of an unlikely victory against Mikel Arteta's side on Saturday. West Ham have won just one of their five matches since the former Chelsea boss' appointment and sit in 16th place.
