West Brightonite produces, stars in film at the SoHo International Film Festival premiere: Meet Ava Bodner

“If That Mockingbird Don’t Sing,” premiered at the SoHo Film Festival.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Ava Bodnar stars in a film that made its New York City premiere in the SoHo International Film Festival -- “If That Mockingbird Don’t Sing.

” Directed by Sadie Bones, the film also features, Dave Krumholtz, Nadia Dajani, Kevin Corrigan and Aitana Doyle. Bodnar is a main character, as well as a producer of the film. The plot centers around 17-year-old Sydnie who, left by boyfriend Lucas, realizes she is pregnant.



She decides to use it as a chance to get her ex back. But she soon realizes it won’t be the quick fix she had hoped for and finds herself caught in a love triangle and lost, according to director, Sadie Bones. A LITTLE ABOUT BODNAR Bodner says she attributes growing up on Staten Island to knowing how to give 100 percent to anything she does.

(Courtesy/the artist) Staten Island Advance A graduate of The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute Conservatory Program, she was chosen by the Strasberg school to work as a teaching assistant for New York University Tisch School drama students. She would go on to attend The Professional Performing Arts High School in Manhattan, where she trained in the pre-professional division at one of the world’s best ballet schools, The American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School.

She also was the 2022 Hunter Fund grant recipient for young film makers. A STATEN ISLAND SUPPORTER The 24 year-old actress/producer who was born and raised in West Brighton, mentors students and worked at United Activities Unlimited (UAU) with youngsters from Mariners Harbor. She also designed, created and sent uniforms to a school for young women in Haiti.

Bodnar’s professional ballet experience includes, “The Sleeping Beauty,” The Fall Gala 75th Anniversary of American Ballet Theatre, “Coppelia: Waltz of the Hours,” Le Corsaire: Jardin Anime,” “Graeme Muphy’s Swan Lake-Aristocrat Girl-Australian Ballet 2012,” “Nutcracker-Party,” “Don Quixote,” and “Nutcracker-Fairy.” Her other film credits include “I Need Your Love” and “Lou & Gem.” Sadie Bones, the writer and director of “If That Mockingbird Don’t Sing,” noted that there are so many different people who have helped her get where she and it’s hard to single out just one.

However, “Someone who stands out is Ava Bodnar, who is a co-producer on “If That Mockingbird Don’t Sing,” plays a lead role, does wardrobe, and has five million other jobs on set,” she noted. “She’s one of my closest friends, and the whole project started as something just the two of us would do together for fun. She’s been there for me and encouraged me since the beginning, and she is also incredibly talented.
