West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spoke on Sealdah Court sentencing life imprisonment to the convict in the RG Kar case. In a media interaction post the judgement she said she was disappointed. According to reports, the CM said, “I learned about the sentencing from the media.

We have always demanded capital punishment and we continue to stand by it. However, this is the court’s decision and I can’t say much about this.” She continued and said, “For three other cases, state police ensured capital punishment through thorough investigations, concluded within 54-60 days.

This was a serious case.” “Had it been under our purview, we would have ensured the death penalty long back,” further added the West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Sealdah Court sentencing life imprisonment to the convict, Sanjay Roy in RG Kar rape and murder case. On the other hand the victim’s parents refused the compensation of Rs.

17 lakhs that was awarded to them by the Sealdah court, said reports on Monday. Sources further added that, the parents further told the Sealdah court judge, “We don’t want compensation, we want justice.” It is worth mentioning here that, the court awarded rapist Sanjay Roy to life imprisonment till death in rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital.

The Court further imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 on the accused. Advocate Rehman told ANI, “Additional Judge of Sessions court, Sealdah has sentenced life imprisonment till death to Sanjay Roy.

The court directed the state government to give compensation of Rs 17 lakhs to the victim’s family. CBI had demanded capital punishment for the convict in the case. The judge said that this not a rarest of the rare cases, hence capital punishment has not been awarded.

” Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar told ANI, “We wanted highest punishment (for the convict Sanjay Roy). The public of West Bengal does not believe that only one person is involved in the RG Kar rape-murder case.” On the Sealdah court pronouncing life imprisonment to the convict of RG Kar rape and murder case, Sanjay Roy BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya told ANI, “The judgement is the manifestation of the mood of the people of the country and of West Bengal.

Even now, the entire people believe that Sanjay Roy was not the only one involved in this case; those who sent Sanjay Roy there, those who altered the place of occurrence. What about the punishment to such people?” On Saturday, Sealdah Civil and Criminal Court pronounced Sanjay Roy guilty in the RG Kar rape and murder case of a trainee doctor. The court said sections 64,66, 103/1 of BNS have been framed against the accused.

“There is a complaint against the accused that he went to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and went to the seminar room, assaulted and murdered the lady doctor taking rest there,” the court said. The case, which involves the rape and murder of a trainee doctor whose body was found on August 9 in the hospital’s seminar room, sparked widespread protests. After the incident, Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer at the hospital, was arrested in connection with the crime.
