Wes Anderson ‘s next feature The Phoenician Scheme revealed its first trailer at CinemaCon . The forthcoming film stars Benicio del Toro and Mia Threapleton as a father-daughter pair with a fractured relationship. The trailer, which has not been shared publicly, opens with del Toro’s character looking bloodied and injured after surviving his sixth airplane crash.
No details about the plot were shared from the stage, although much of the action involved battle scenes. “Help yourself to a hand grenade,” del Toro tells Scarlett Johansson’s character in one scene. She turns down the offer.
The star-studded ensemble cast includes Michael Cera, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Riz Ahmed, Jeffrey Wright, Richard Ayoade, Rupert Friend, Hope Davis and Benedict Cumberbatch. The Phoenician Scheme is an espionage-centric feature centering on a family business. Focus Features releases the title in select theaters May 30 before it goes wide June 6.
Anderson is known for doing repeat collaborations with talent and crew, and he previously shared that the same was true of this Germany-based production. “People who are newcomers on the set or [to] the process of making one of my movies find it strange,” Anderson said at Annecy last year . “It’s not necessarily the way movies are normally made.
Probably every director is like that. We have our own strange methods, which began in some ways with the first film I made.” CinemaCon is the annual event for exhibitors and Hollywood studios that runs this year from March 31 to April 3.
It is presented by Cinema United (formerly the National Association of Theatre Owners)..
