A new gym venture aiming to give members a good all-round fitness level has launched in South Albury. or signup to continue reading Allfit has taken over from the former and Newtown Fitness Albury gym on Kiewa Street. Antony Maney purchased the business in August 2024 and rebranded it as Allfit, with a focus on providing a broader fitness experience.
"We want to be a place where no matter what sport you're into or what you want to achieve, be it playing with the grandkids or doing gardening, that will benefit you," he said. "A lot of people will pick one type of workout, such as weightlifting, and it's all they will do, but if they are thrown into a bit of running, it's a different kettle of fish. "Our weekly programming encompasses all of that.
My belief is you're better off to be good at heaps of things than really good at one discipline. "In saying that, if you wanted to come here and just do weightlifting, you can, or if you wanted just to do running, you can. "There's also a huge mental health element.
Coming here and talking to your friends before or after a workout, there's a big community aspect." is one of four staff members and has put together a range of workout programs for members, with functional fitness classes offered every weekday and children's sessions twice a week. She said Allfit had a diverse membership, ranging from footballers and motorbike riders to women older than 50 caring for parents who have experienced falls.
"We cover skill-based fitness with weightlifting and gymnastics, as well as conditioning and strength," she said. "We've got a weightlifting platform for people who want to train that, and we've got different pieces of equipment powerlifters use. "There's nothing that you can't train for here.
"We can scale every movement to cater for various capabilities. I can identify what some members need to work on and can focus on something specific. "We're not all athletes, we're all just here to stay off the floor.
It's health before healthcare. "Sometimes people need healthcare, but if you can avoid it for as long as possible, it's a positive thing." Allfit has recently affiliated with Hyrox, a global fitness competition for every body type.
It combines eight kilometres of running and eight functional workout stations, such as sled pulling, rowing and kettlebell carrying. "What Allfit is known for covers Hyrox perfectly, so it's a no-brainer to affiliate with them," Mr Maney said. "Everything we do would benefit you if you were to do a Hyrox competition.
" Ms Warchow said Australia hosted three Hyrox races annually in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. "We have a couple of people who train at other gyms that are coming here for our weekly Hyrox sessions so they can build their capacity around the different types of movement," she said. "They do a lot of strength-based training, so getting them to run and then push a heavy sled is challenging.
" Mr Maney is a builder by trade and has completed most renovations to the building himself. "It's vastly different to what it used to look like, and I think the members received it really well," he said. "Having a different colour scheme and a members' area at the front has made it more comfortable.
"I think it's important for members to see their money going somewhere. They're obviously paying for programs and a facility, but seeing it go back into things that benefit them is good." Functional fitness sessions run four times from Monday to Friday and once on Saturdays, while children's classes are on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
