Palm Beach County Elections Supervisor Wendy Sartory Link won reelection on Tuesday, keeping her position for another four years. Election results showed Sartory Link, a Democrat, drew about 57% of the votes, defeating her Republican opponent, Jeff Buongiorno. Her election night victory came after the elections office tracked historic voter turnout: In Palm Beach County, the turnout was about 84%, nearing the record set in 1992, when Bill Clinton defeated George H.
W. Bush. “I’m very pleased and excited to have the opportunity to continue to serve in the position and look forward to working with our staff,” Link said on Wednesday.
“We’re going to want to build onto the relationships with the partners in the community that we have that helps us to reach out to voters and continue voter outreach.” Link first became supervisor in 2019 after being appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
At the time, she was a registered Republican but switched parties in 2020 and is now a registered Democrat. Her career before switching to becoming the county’s elections supervisor was marked by business law and consulting. During her first term, Link’s office presided over elections during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 presidential election, the 2022 midterms, and most recently, the opening of the $60 million headquarters on Cherry Road.
In the new year, Link said voter outreach may look like a renewal of election experience tours, which give an inside look into how elections are conducted and allow people to ask questions about the process. The tours were given in the previous building but have not yet started up at the new headquarters. She said she also wants to work with the office to find ways to get more younger people involved in elections, such as the student-greeters initiative the office executed on Tuesday when students between the ages of 16 and 22 greeted voters as they entered the building.
“Ultimately, our goal is to make Palm Beach County the best place to vote,” she said, adding: “A lot of what we need to do is continue to rebuild voter confidence. We’ll start at home but it is something nationwide.”.
