Vadodara: Purushottam Moorjani, a prominent consumer rights activist , allegedly committed suicide at his residence in the city on Friday night. Moorjani, who ran Jagrut Nagrik , a consumer rights organization, shot himself with his licensed revolver at around 9 pm. He wrote a long suicide note and sent it to his family, friends, and acquaintances on WhatsApp.
Moorjani blamed a young woman and her mother for torturing him. In the suicide note, he wrote that he considered the girl as his daughter, but she and her mother pressured him to transfer the ownership of Jagrut Nagrik's office property in the woman's name. The note reads that Moorjani bought a petrol pump in the woman's name on Padra-Dabhasa Road and contributed half the money in buying the house where the mother-daughter stay.
Moorjani further wrote that he bought a luxurious car on the occasion of Labh Paacham and took the girl along for the delivery. Later, Moorjani took the car home and gave a ride to his wife in it. He alleged that the woman called him on his phone and abused him for taking his daughter in the car.
When Moorjani went to the woman's house, she allegedly assaulted him, and her mother took away the car's keys. Moorjani alleged in the note that they didn't let him eat all day. The note states that he took the help of an intermediary to pacify the duo, but they continued torturing him.
Moorjani, who suffered from diabetes, hypertension, and Parkinson's, got nervous when the woman allegedly threatened him with a rape case. He wrote in the note that a rape case would malign his name and result in social shame for his wife. When the woman didn't relent, Moorjani decided to end his life on Friday morning.
He went to the Karelibaug police station where he deposited his licensed revolver. Moorjani reached his home on Waghodia Road on Friday evening and wrote the suicide note that he sent on WhatsApp to his friends, acquaintances, and family members. "He kept the message on a timer on WhatsApp.
