Weight Watchers has made a major change to its eating plan leaving many followers delighted. One even said the changes were " come early" saying it would make the festive meal easier than ever. Weight Watchers works by giving followers a set number of points to spend on food or drink throughout the day with bonus ones to use over the week.

All foods and drinks have a points value starting at zero for healthier options but much higher numbers for things like chocolate or high fat products. But from Tuesday the 200 foods which were zero have now been boosted to include more than 150 additional products including potatoes, porridge oats, dark chicken and turkey meat and lean pork and beef. This means Christmas dinner will be easier as your roasties, cooked in the right way, mash and parsnips will no longer cost you from your allowance - making those pigs in blankets, gravy and Yorkshires more affordable.

Some other changes will make the plan even easier as if you take a picture of your meal it can identify what is on your plate, counting up the points without you having to use your brain. It also has a recipe analyser which means it can work out the points for any recipe on the internet and macro tracking showing your food breakdowns such as salt, fat and protein intake. Many followers of the plant have welcomed the news with Anne saying on Instagram: "This is brilliant - it feels like Christmas come early.

My favourite meal is egg and chips and that will now be zero points which is so good." Siobhan added: "Dark turkey meat and potatoes make Christmas dinner a lot easier!" Barbara said on Facebook: "I am so excited about the new plan." And Carol added: "This is brilliant - I always felt mean if I gave other people the dark meat off the chicken and having the breast so I didn't have to count it.

" While Julie simply said: "Game changer." But it didn't go far enough for some. Posting on Facebook Kelly joked: "When is wine going to be zero".

Tina had a word of caution though saying: "It will be great for added variety, but as a daily add, I think it will slow loss. They had it as points before for a reason. The older programs were more strict, my losses were more consistent.

" And posting on Facebook Mona warned: "This seems dangerous to me. I haven't had a potato in 106 days and I love potatoes! Makes no sense that something that costs us 5 pts tonight, we can wait till breakfast tomorrow and have it for free. I get change and will appreciate the macros and some of the new features, but adding all the new 0 point foods just seems like a bad idea.

The 5 pt turkey burger and 5 pt baked potato can now be breakfast, lunch and dinner. And now with the extra points, we can have that sour cream and butter!!! It would only add 6 points a meal or 18 points for all three meals. So today that daily total would be 48 points, and tomorrow only 18 points.

I'm a vegan so I'm really only excited about the addition of the potatoes and the oatmeal which I eat every morning, but I honestly see the new free food being problematic for some. Strictly my opinion." However Amy had an answer.

She said: "People need to use common sense and not eat these new free foods in huge portions or at every meal. I rarely eat potatoes either but now will, but limit it to a few servings a week and see if it has any effect on my weight loss. I think these are good changes, I don’t plan on avoiding potatoes or pork and beef for the rest of my life, so it’s better in my opinion to learn how to work them back into my diet now, not months from now when I’m at goal.
