It was a wild week of weather in many parts of the United States. The National Weather Service issued excessive heat warnings and advisories Tuesday for large patches of Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania as hot soupy temperatures approached triple digits. On the West Coast, a cold snap early in the week brought snow to the mountains of Washington, Oregon and California.

Also on Tuesday, three tropical cyclones — Hone, Gilma and Hector — swirled over the Pacific Ocean, bringing heavy rain to Hawaii. Above, Gonzalo Garcia walks along North Avenue Beach selling ice cream on Monday in Chicago. Get local news delivered to your inbox!.
