The appeals are among a series of pleas the LHSAA’s executive committee will hear during a two-day meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday at the LHSAA office in Baton Rouge.

Players from both teams left the benches and their Sept. 5 game was called with 14 seconds remaining in a nondistrict game played at Broadmoor. Ellender won 14-0.

“The fact that there was an altercation, that is correct,” LHSAA executive director Eddie Bonine said. “The schools had 48 hours to submit their reports on the incident and one of the two schools was in compliance with that. “We have since received all the reports and multiple pieces of video evidence of what transpired.

There are forfeits involved. Both schools are choosing to appeal the rulings rendered from this office at the upcoming executive committee meeting.” Bonine said both schools forfeited their games last week and will forfeit Week 3 games.

Broadmoor was scheduled to play West Feliciana in a District 6-4A game. Houma-based Ellender was set to play a nondistrict game against Houma Christian. Though the two schools will forfeit two games in the same season, Bonine stressed that the situation does not trigger an LHSAA rule that requires a school to drop the sport of football for two years because when there are two forfeits.

“These forfeits are involuntary,” Bonine said. “A school is required to drop the sport of football for two years only if the forfeits are voluntary, as in the school decided to forfeit. That is not the case here.
