Why is everyone lamenting RFK Jr.’s attempt to ignore proven science ..
. you know ..
. that medical stuff that gave us prevention for polio, measles and smallpox? Why are we not celebrating the fact that fewer vaccines — plus the elimination of safety and health regulations — will result in more people meeting Jesus in person, sooner rather than later? Manufacturers of caskets and mobility assist devices may soon be doing cartwheels over their stock prices. What company goes broke by being a supplier to the industries of death and disability? “Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?” In the movie “Spencer’s Mountain,” the Henry Fonda character tells his son, “Just because something’s wrote down don’t mean it’s so.
” And just because some people reject proven science in favor of conspiracy theories, it does not mean that those theories are true. People are also reading..
. Health-related precautions during the worst of the COVID pandemic were taken out of an abundance of care ..
. and were attempts to prevent death and disability. Not, as some are saying, to take away our freedoms.
More than 1 million Americans died in spite of those precautions. And now some people are telling us that we should have let the virus burn through the population to achieve herd immunity. OK, suppose we had done that.
How loud would be the outcry if 3 or 4 million people had died, instead of the 1 million who did? To paraphrase John Candy’s Del Griffith in “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles,” “loud” is not a big enough word. I give thanks daily for the 2021 COVID response ..
. and for my nine vaccinations. Joseph McGhee Jr.
High Point The Jan. 6 insurrectionists attacked the United States. People were hurt and died.
Property was damaged. Insurrections have occurred throughout our history. In those cases, whites attacked and killed blacks to gain control.
Wilmington in 1898. Danville, Va., in 1883.
Tulsa, Okla., in 1921. These are only a few.
Many of those involved were not convicted of any crime. Why? If these Jan. 6 insurrectionists are pardoned, we are merely repeating history.
This is not making America great again. Rick Johnson Winston-Salem Someone needs to wake up Joe Biden and tell him about the drones. I can’t wait until the inauguration, so we can get some answers from our president.
It might make us feel safer to know what is going on. Peggy Taylor Winston-Salem Donald Trump campaigned on a promise to “drain the swamp.” However, I believe the swamp will only grow larger under Trump.
Consider his pick for education secretary, North Carolina’s own Linda McMahon. McMahon graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in French. She’s never worked as a teacher or principal.
McMahon’s husband, Vince, promoted “kayfabe” in WWE. Kayfabe is the agreement among performers to stay in character in and out of the ring, so the audience never knows what’s scripted versus unscripted. For the MAGA movement, loyalty is about staying in a character that supports Trump.
This creates a code of silence. When a code of silence is perpetuated by fear, only cowards rise to the top. Another side effect of appointments based on loyalty is that many of these appointees don’t have relevant experience.
You wouldn’t want a lawyer to surgically remove your tumor. You wouldn’t want a doctor to change the brakes on your car. And you certainly wouldn’t want a salesman to give a sermon at your church.
You want experienced people to do the important things that matter. And the future of America matters. Therefore, in the best-case scenario, Trump’s appointees will hire a layer of experts to do the actual work.
Remember: Every accusation is a confession. The swamp will grow and become thickest at the very top. And it will be filled with leeches.
