Bayern Munich ’s 3-1 victory over Augsburg on Friday was marred by a potentially serious injury to attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala. “He felt his hamstring,” head coach Vincent Kompany said after the match in comments captured via @iMiaSanMia . “I don’t know exactly.
We have to wait and see. We have to solve [his absence] with the squad. It’s not an excuse, we have to keep going.
Hopefully when Jamal is back, we will have won our games and he can help us again.” Kompany is displaying a brave face in the face of incredibly adverse circumstances..
.but this will not be easy for Bayern to address. The Bavarians do have bodies in attack but it is not as simple as plugging and playing.
Musiala’s unique style and energy was critical. While Michael Olise or Leroy Sané could bring similar qualities centrally, it would create an opening on either wing. It’s Thomas Müller’s favorite position, but.
..the veteran brings a different pace and profile than the youngster who has succeeded him.
It doesn’t help that there is a glut of injuries at the back, too. This has all the makings of a perfect storm. Will it swallow the Bavarians whole, or can they fight their way out?
