Ministry of Health permanent secretary Dr Jemesa Tudravu says they have not determined the source of an alleged poisoning that landed seven foreigners in hospital on Sunday. Speaking to the media this morning, Dr Tudravu said the patients were still admitted at the Lautoka Hospital. He also said the Fiji Police Force was conducting its own toxicology report.

“We don’t have the results of the investigation yet and we don’t know whether it was spiking or any other cause,” he said. Meanwhile, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT) travel advisory site Smart Traveller posted an update after the incident. “Be alert to the potential risks around drink spiking and methanol poisoning through consuming alcoholic drinks.



Get urgent medical help if you suspect drink spiking,” the advisory said. Fiji Police confirmed this morning that investigations were underway..
