Osbourne shared that the late star was “just a kid” when he entered “one of the toughest industries in the world”. The British singer-songwriter rose to fame after being put together with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson on The X Factor in 2010 to create One Direction. Osbourne, who was a judge on the ITV talent show for seven years, made a guest appearance on the 2010 show to assist Louis Walsh at the judges’ houses phase of the competition.

Payne's former One Direction bandmates also paid tribute to the late singer, in a joint statement writing: “In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. “But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever.
“For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. “We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.
” One Direction finished third in The X Factor behind Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle. The group released five studio albums and won seven Brit Awards, including for their 2012 debut hit What Makes You Beautiful and the track History from their last album in 2015. Payne previously said he struggled with alcoholism at the peak of his success, describing hitting “rock bottom” to The Diary Of A CEO podcast host Steven Bartlett.
