Times News Network Ludhiana: Despite the administration’s appeal, the practice of discharging cow dung waste into Buddha Dariya is not stopping. On Friday, officials of the municipal corporation’s health branch and operation and maintenance cell formed a joint team and raided the dairy complex in Haibowal. Here, seven dairies were found discharging cow dung into Buddha Dariya.
Corporation officials have issued challans to the owners concerned dairy units. MC officials have appealed to the dairy operators to dump the dung of their animals at the designated place. If in future, any dairy operator is found discharging the dung of animals from their units into Buddha Dariya through sewer, legal action will also be recommended against them.
The animal dung is going into Buddha Dariya through the sewer from the dairies, due to which the pollution level in the river has increased. Apart from this, dung is also reaching the sewerage treatment plant of the municipal corporation from some points, due to which the machinery is also getting damaged. The issue of discharge from dairies was raised at a high-level committee meeting held in Chandigarh recently.
The committee had also recommended taking action against the dairy operators responsible for pollution in Budha Dariya. At the meeting of the corporation commissioner on Friday, the officials were also instructed to take strict action against the dairies. As soon as the meeting ended, teams led by the officials raided the dairy complex.
Review Meeting Of Buddha Dariya Project A review meeting regarding the Buddha Dariya rejuvenation project at MC Zone D office conducted on Friday. During the meeting, the officials explored options to change the location of Gaushala intermediate pumping station (IPS). The IPS could not be constructed as of now due to a pending court case regarding the ownership of the land where the IPS is presently being constructed.
Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal said that all the other components of Buddha nullah rejuvenation project have been completed and only the construction of Gaushala IPS is pending “due to a pending court case regarding the ownership of the land”. Options are also being explored to change the location of the Gaushala IPS for expediting the project.
