The incident occurred during the 10th over of India’s innings when Samson sent a massive shot off Tristan Stubbs over deep mid-wicket, which struck the woman directly in the face. The fan was visibly shaken and was given ice to ease the injury. Samson, upon realizing the fan was hurt, appeared deeply apologetic, and the video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
In the match, India dominated South Africa, winning by a massive 135 runs in the fourth T20I, and secured the series 3-1. Samson’s stunning 109 not out off 56 balls, paired with Tilak Varma’s explosive 120 not out from just 47 balls, propelled India to an imposing total of 283 for 1 in 20 overs, marking their highest-ever total on overseas soil. In South Africa’s run chase, Arshdeep Singh (3/20) delivered a sensational opening spell, swinging the ball sharply under the lights to reduce the hosts to a precarious 10 for 4.
The South African side was eventually bowled out for 148 in 18.2 overs. Among the many records that fell, the most remarkable was the achievement of two Indian batters scoring centuries in the same T20I innings.
Samson and Varma also set a new benchmark with the highest partnership for India in T20 Internationals—210 runs off just 93 balls for the second wicket. Samson brought up his century in 51 balls, while Varma reached his in just 41 balls, 10 balls quicker. Remarkably, Samson now has three T20I centuries in his last five innings, which also included two ducks.
