The Bengal fast bowler’s last competitive cricket match was the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia on November 19 last year.
Since then Shami has been sidelined with an ankle injury. He also underwent a surgery on his injured ankle earlier this year. Now with a week to go for the first India vs Australia 2024 Test for the Border Gavaskar Trophy at Perth, Shami has begun his journey back into international cricket.
In his first comeback back since his injury, Shami was devastating with the ball on Day 2 of Bengal’s Ranji Trophy 2024 match against Madhya Pradesh in Indore. Shami picked up 4/54 in 19 overs with the ball as home side MP were bundled out for 167 in 59 overs on the second day. After going wicketless on the opening day, Shami was well and truly back among the wickets – dismissing MP captain Shubham Sharma for 8.
