There weren’t a ton a fireworks early on in the Detroit Lions’ season-opener against the Los Angeles Rams but Jameson Williams turned on the burners for an explosive play early in the third quarter. On a third down and three from the Lions’ 48-yard line, quarterback Jared Goff hit Williams down the left sideline for a 52-yard touchdown to put Detroit up 17-3. twitter.com/GtCJg72dWU It was the longest touchdown of Williams’ young career and also put him over 100 yards from scrimmage for the first time in his career. The 23-year-old is expected to take on a much bigger role on offense this season following the departure of wide receiver Josh Reynolds in the offseason.

Now the Lions’ second wide receiver, Williams is off to a great start to his 2024 campaign. Following his touchdown, Williams had a team-high three catches for 89 yards and one carry for 13 yards, easily leading all Lions in scrimmage yards. The next closest player at the time was David Montgomery's 48 total yards.

Expect to see a lot more of the former first-round pick this season. His deep touchdown also extended Goff’s franchise record for consecutive home games with a touchdown pass to 22 games. © Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK.
