Kwame Opoku of Asante Kotoko battling with a defender Asante Kotoko maintained their push for a domestic double by defeating Division One side True Democracy in the FA Cup quarterfinals at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, March 30, 2025. Ogum, sensing a chance to break his duck in the cup tournament, named a strong lineup with Mohammed Camara replacing Frederick Asare in goal and Justice Blay returning to lead the team. The in-form Kwame Opoku spearheaded the attack.

Asante Kotoko’s strong lineup took control immediately, applying relentless pressure that soon paid off. In just 12 minutes, Saaka Dauda capitalised on their dominance, slotting home to give the Porcupine Warriors an early lead. However, True Democracy put up a fight, scoring the equalizer in the 62nd minute.

Youngster Isaac Botchway found the back of the net, levelling matters with just about 30 minutes left on the clock. As the game became increasingly cagey, with few chances, Kwame Opoku produced a moment of brilliance to restore Asante Kotoko’s lead and secure the victory with just minutes left on the clock, sending the fans into a frenzy. True Democracy protested the legitimacy of the goal, claiming they had players on the ground after a clash and, therefore, play should have stopped.

It was the striker’s third goal in five games, earning Asante Kotoko their third win in five games and extending their unbeaten run to five games. The win now puts Asante Kotoko in the semifinals as head coach Prosper Ogum chases his first FA Cup trophy.
