Ruben Selles admits he will not worry too much about other results as Hull City face yet another nervous period before they take to the field again. After losing 1-0 at Watford on Tuesday night , City dropped a point closer to the relegation zone. And if results go against them on Saturday, they could be back in the bottom three by the time they kick off against Coventry City on Monday evening, which would come as a hammer blow with only four games to go after the visit of the Sky Blues.
Having enjoyed the euphoria of Charlie Hughes' stunning stoppage-time winner at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, Selles' men produced a limp performance to lose at Vicarage Road. And the Spaniard says it's key his players recover after a busy few days and prepare for a manic week next week which sees them play on both Monday and Friday before Preston North End visit on Easter Monday. "Well, we cannot control that," Selles said of keeping tabs on what happens on Saturday.
"So that's what we've got. First of all, we need to be sure that we get the fatigue out of the body, and then we need to prepare for the game. I think, sometimes, you play earlier, and then if you don't get the result, you need to see what the others do.
Sometimes, you play late, and then the others have played before. It's part of the game. "It's useful to have six days to get everybody fit and ready.
After a defeat, I always prefer to play a couple of days later because you need to take that sensation out of your body, and I think everyone else in the team wants to do that, but that's what we've got, so it's going to be important for us to get the fatigue out of the body, prepare for the next game, and then go again." Selles says watching what other teams do is almost pointless given it's not something he can effect, though he admits for some players, it will be hard to escape. "That is a little bit individual with how you feel," he said.
"Everyone can say that you don't see it, but somebody texts you, and some worry more about that. "For me personally, I consider it a waste of time because you cannot control anything at all about what the other teams. You cannot control the line-up, the substitutions, or the way they play.
The score is going to be there at the end, but you just need to manage what you can control. What we can control is to go to the next game, put in a good performance, and try to get the three points. "That's what we should do (ignore the other results).
It's not as easy as it sounds because, obviously, the distractions are always there, but that has to be our focus on ourselves." 'Waste of time' - Hull City boss lifts the lid on the impact of relegation rivals' results
