A WARRANT has been issued by Cwmbran Magistrates' court after a woman from Newport failed to turn up to a court hearing whereby she is accused of animal neglect. Jayne Louise Short, 58, of Lewis Close, Crumlin, Newport has been charged with animal cruelty offences, and is accused of neglecting her husky-type dog called Digger. The RSPCA claim to have found Digger at Short's address on Lewis Close in Crumlin in a poor physical state.

Short is accused of not taking such steps to ensure that the needs of an animal for which you were responsible, namely a male husky/malamute type dog named Digger were met to the extent required by good practice. It was heard in court that she failed to adequately address the cause of his weight loss and poor body condition, failed to provide necessary veterinary care for an infected anal mass, his skin condition and ear condition. It is also alleged that Short failed to provide effective flea control measures.

As Short failed to turn up to court, a warrant has been issued for her arrest without bail. This is on the basis that the offence is punishable with imprisonment..
