" After posting the warning on Facebook, hundreds of people shared the post, among them concerned dog owners. Some dog owners said they feared some 'sick person' was responsible for the presence of the suspected toxins. One woman, commenting on social media, said: "People smoking weed and using the woods as a toilet then dogs eating it.

It's absolutely disgusting." She said it wasn't clear what had happened at Bunny Woods, but claimed that something similar had happened in Beaumont Park, Huddersfield. One woman, who said her own dog was being treated by Donaldson's, also took to social media and said: "My dog was one of the dogs admitted, even though she showed a negative urine sample for cannabis the vets are treating her for cannabis ingestion as one of the other dogs that had been in the same area and presented with the same symptoms tested positive.

"Massive thanks to all staff at Donaldson's Vets both Birchencliffe and Almondbury for their constant care and frequent updates." In 2018, dogs were poisoned after eating the remains of cannabis plants dumped near to Honley Woods at Honley, near Holmfirth. In extreme cases, dogs can die as a result of eating cannabis.
