Donald Campbell, who was born at the Nepean Dam in 1928 during the Depression, lived in Helensburgh and Cronulla, but spent his early years around the Royal National Park.

He joined the Navy at 19 during the Korean War and served two years and three months on HMAS Anzac where he was part of many conflicts. Christine Starling said her father's dying wish was for his ashes to be spread in the sea off Bundeena. Mr Griffiths told her they were more than happy to assist.

Last Saturday, Christine and her brother Paul Starling flew from Melbourne to Sydney with their father's ashes and travelled by train to Cronulla. When they missed the 2pm ferry, sub-Branch president David Williams went over in his small boat and picked them up. After a short remembrance service at the Memorial Crypt outside the Bundeena Community Services Club, led by Paul Griffiths, David took Christine and Paul in his boat out to sea off Jibbon Head, where they fulfilled his wish.

"Donald Campbell was a brilliant horse rider and won many Jim Gymkhana Competitions, and taught a young lady to ride a horse for the movie Paul Griffiths said. "He was a founding member of the Bundeena Horsemen's Association and the Cronulla Rugby League Club."
