Wanted criminal Suraj Singh arrested after police encounter in UP's Pratapgarh

A wanted criminal, Suraj Singh, was injured and arrested after an exchange of fire with police near Rampur Mustarka Pulia Road in Pratapgarh district. Singh, who faces 11 criminal cases, was taken to SRN Hospital for treatment. His accomplice managed to escape.

Image used for representational purpose only PRAYAGRAJ : A wanted criminal was injured and arrested in an exchange of fire with the police near Rampur Mustarka Pulia Road under the limits of Kotwali Dehat police station of Pratapgarh district , early Friday. The injured criminal, identified as Suraj Singh (23), a resident of Loka ka Purwa Poorekhusai, Mohanganj village, was referred to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj district for treatment. Police said that as many as 11 criminal cases, including murder, kidnapping, and the Gangster Act, were pending against the criminal.

A senior cop told TOI, “Acting upon a tip-off that two armed criminals were moving towards Mustarka Pulia Road with the intention to execute a robbery, a team of Kotwali Dehat police launched a search operation and intercepted a bike near Pulia Road. When the police team asked the rider and pillion rider to surrender, one of them opened fire on the police party, and the exchange of fire left the criminal injured in his right leg. While police managed to arrest Suraj Singh, his accomplice managed to escape from the spot by taking advantage of the topography of the area and the dark.



" Police also recovered a country-made pistol of 0.315 bore along with three live and one used cartridge on the spot. Police, however, claimed that the injured Suraj Singh was listed as History Sheeter (18 A) with Kotwali police station of Pratapgarh district.
