WANDERERS Women crashed seven second-half goals past Tranmere Rovers to reach the third round of the Alliance Print and Design Cup at Victory Park. Jess Lightfoot scored five of Bolton’s 10 on the day in a game that looked as though it would be a close-fought affair when the two teams went in at half time level at three apiece. Six goals were scored in the opening 24 minutes, Eboni Bradshaw and Neishai Gordon establishing a 2-0 lead for the Whites , pegged back quickly by higher-league Rovers, who also put Wanderers out of the FA Cup last month.

Lightfoot grabbed the first of her haul only for the visitors to equalise yet again. And it was only a composed goal-line clearance from Eleanor Seals at the start of the second half which stopped the game being turned on its head completely. But that triggered Bolton into action and they went ahead once more with Bradshaw claiming her second.

Lightfoot scored her second, drilling home from the edge of the box after more good work from Bradshaw, and Faye Knox then got in on the act, finishing well from the right-hand side of box. Former Blackburn Rovers midfielder Knox then had a say in Lightfoot’s hat-trick goal, combining with another recent signing, Gordon, to create the seventh goal of the day. Just after Lightfoot prodded home a corner for her fourth, Lily Barnes came off the bench in the second for her first action since the win against Haslingden.

Emme Shone, who had helped to change the game with her arrival at half time, was played down the middle for goal number nine in stoppage time, and there was still time for Lightfoot to grab another, latching on to a poor back-pass in the final few seconds to put Bolton into double digits. Wanderers’ next game is at home to Radcliffe on November 10, which will be played at Atherton Colls’ Dreams 2 Reality Stadium..
