Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Reserve have earned the bragging rights of the junior Blantyre derby after beating FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve 1-0 in a Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) League Thumbs Up Premier Division last eight match played at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre Thursday. Blessings Saiti scored the all-important goal which saw the young Nomads collecting full points over their bitter rivals. With the result, Wanderers Youth are now sixth on the log table with 13 points from 11 matches.

But despite the loss, Bullets Reserve remain third with 19 points the same number of matches. In another match also played Thursday, Ntaja United’s resurgence continued with a 1-0 defeat of Nyambadwe United, courtesy of James Zuze. SRFA Vice General Secretary Kingsley Simbeye said matches took a break for about a week due to training sessions for under-20 teams that are preparing for this year’s African Union Sports Council Region 5 Games.

“Match venues continued to be a problem for us and we just had to take a break. But we are now back and making every effort to finish matches within this month. We will allow teams to rest on Saturday and Sunday before getting back to action on Monday,” Simbeye said.

Action continues this afternoon with Ndirande Stars hosting second-placed Red Lions at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, while leaders Ekhaya United and bottom-placed Mwanza Stars will cross swords at Mpira. The teams will take a break over the weekend and resume matches on Monday when Nyambadwe and Lions will line up against each other at Kamuzu whereas Wanderers Reserve and Ekhaya will lock horns at Mpira. In Tuesday’s action, Mwanza will host Ntaja at Mpira with Ndirande and Bullets Reserve facing each other at Kamuzu.
