Home | Walaza struck double gold at World Athletics Under 20 Championships South African sprint sensation, Bayanda Walaza , has done it again. The 18-year-old Grade 12 learner from Pretoria has struck double gold at the World Athletics Under 20 Championships in Lima, Peru. This 200 metres gold medal win is an addition to the 100 metres title that Walazi won on Wednesday.

The Olympic Games silver medalist in the 100 metres relay, clocked a time of 20.52 seconds, to beat the fast-finishing 16-year-old Australian, Gout Gout, by eight one hundredth of a second. Jake Odey Jordan of Great Britain secured the bronze medal in 20.



81 seconds. Walaza’s second gold medal is Team South Africa’s fifth medal at the Championships with three gold, one silver and a bronze medal making up the total. SABC © 2024.
