MANILA, Philippines — In-person classes in some areas of the country have been cancelled due to the state weather bureau’s forecast maximum heat index on Friday (April 11). Below is a list of local government units that have so far announced the suspension of face-to-face classes for April 11 (Friday): Both the local governments of Quezon City and Bacoor have told schools under their jurisdiction to shift to alternative delivery modes of studies. This is to ensure that learning competencies are still met despite the cancellation of in-person setup.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) data showed the country’s highest heat indices and the areas where they are expected to prevail: In Metro Manila, a heat index of 38°C to 40°C is predicted by Pagasa. A heat index of over 42°C falls under the “dangerous” threshold where heat stroke is “probable” with continued sun exposure. On March 26, the state weather bureau announced the onset of the dry season.
