The Sandover Medal 2024 was won last night by Swan Districts player Nik Rokahr and Claremont Tiger Callan England, who both polled 19 votes in the nail-biting count. It’s the first time the medal has been shared since 2005. Rokahr averaged 30 disposals this season while England polled votes in nine of the season’s games, including three best on grounds.

Former Fremantle Docker, Mitch Crowden from East Perth, narrowly missed joining the winning duo, finishing on 18 votes. WA Police have made a breakthrough arrest in a bizarre crime where a 50-metre Western Power transmission pole was knocked down in an alleged act of vandalism. The incident occurred in Pinjar in April last year, with police offering a $100,000 reward two months ago for anyone who came forward with information.

A 33-year-old man has since been charged with destruction of property, possessing cannabis and possessing unlicensed firearm ammunition. The arrest came after State Security Investigations group detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in Clarkson where they located a vehicle and several other items of interest to the power pole investigation. “During the search of the man’s residence an amount of cannabis, 30 rounds of unlicensed ammunition and an improvised device capable of firing a projectile were located,” a police spokesman said.

Police previously alleged the person involved in damaging the pole had dressed in worker and technician clothing to avoid drawing attention to themselves. “These steel structure towers don’t collapse ..

. they’re built to withstand cyclonic conditions. It’s very troubling,” Joondalup Det-Insp.

Gary Butler said at the time. The vandalism impacted several industrial customers. The man is due to appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court later this month.

An update now on the tragic death of Greenfields man Joshua Standring, 41, who was found dead inside his home on Sunday morning. WA Police have just charged two men with his murder. A 54-year-old and 51-year-old man, both from Barragup (near Mandurah), will face Perth Magistrates Court this morning.

Homicide detectives made the arrests after emergency services received a call at 1.45am on Sunday, with the caller detailing a serious assault which had occurred inside a residence on Renison Drive. A friend described Standring as “a kind, respectful, loving person”, who had proposed to his partner a day before his death.
